Safety
- SAFE-U alerts. You can update your opt-in preferences by taking the following steps: Log in to MyU→ Select My info→ Select Manage SAFE-U Alerts →Select My Profile.
- Call 911 if there is an immediate threat to your safety or the safety of others. If you are on campus, a University 911 dispatcher will respond to your call.
- For non-emergencies call the UMPD at 612-624-2677.
- As of January 20, most University buildings require a U Card to enter. Always carry your U Card so you can access campus buildings without issue, and don’t prop doors open or allow someone to follow you into buildings. View current building hours and other campus information on Campus Maps.

Mental Health
If you or someone you know needs urgent mental health support, you can call the 24/7 UMN crisis line 612-301-4673. Call 911 if there is an immediate threat to your safety or the safety of others.
For Students
- If you encounter a student in urgent distress, the Red Folder can provide resources to help you respond quickly and appropriately.
- Access urgent/crisis drop-in counseling available on campus at Boynton Health’s Urgent Mental Health Care Clinic during clinic hours.
- The Care Program offers faculty/staff guidance for how to have a caring conversation with a student and how to address unresponsive students. It also outlines when to submit a referral, to provide the student with brief, nonclinical case management, support, and resources as they navigate the UMN Twin Cities.
For Faculty & Staff
- Faculty and staff who are benefits-eligible can access support through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Lyra Health. Help is available 24 hours a day for you and your dependents at (877) 295-8939 or care@lyrahealth.com. Eight sessions of free therapy or coaching, self-care resources, stress-reducing tools, and events are available in the Lyra portal, including the Coping With Distressing Current Events webinar.
- Mental health services beyond the eight free EAP sessions are covered by the University’s medical program, and in-person and virtual care options are available.
