Research & Innovation Office (RIO) provides services and support to the University of Minnesota research community through our administrative units.

  • Limited Extramural Funding
    This list features externally funded grant opportunities that require university coordination because the sponsor has limited the number of applications an institution is allowed to submit.
  • Office of Cost Analysis (OCA)
    The Office of Cost Analysis supports the research mission of the University by providing analytical, cost accounting, and effort reporting expertise to ensure that sponsored activity at the University is in compliance with federal principles and standards.

MN-GEMS

MN-GEMS (Minnesota Grants Electronic Management System) is the University of Minnesota’s grants management tool that replaced the EGMS platform in April 2024.

Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA)

Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) is the University office authorized to submit research proposals and receive awards from external sources on behalf of the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota. The SPA website contains compliance guidance, instructions, forms, and policies for proposals, awards, subawards, and all grant-related matters.
