Onboarding and Orientation

New employees and those who transfer to positions within our school need support in gaining the knowledge and skills to be successful in their new positions. Effective onboarding helps new employees feel engaged and become productive. The SPH HR team is here to work with supervisors, divisions/units, and staff to help new employees succeed quickly.

SPH New Employee Checklist

Involvement from the supervisor, division/unit, and the school — especially the SPH HR Team — are necessary to orient and onboard new employees well. This checklist helps ensure that everyone is working together to support a new hire.

SPH New Employee Orientation

Once a month all new faculty and staff with 50 percent or greater appointments are invited to attend a school orientation to engage with the school’s mission, understand key policies and resources, and forge connections.

SPH New Faculty Reception

School leadership hosts an annual reception to welcome new faculty every fall.

SPH New Staff Welcome Reception

School leadership hosts a welcome reception for new staff in the beginning of spring semester. Look for an invitation for the upcoming event.

University New Employee Welcome

The University of Minnesota welcomes you! There is much to learn as you start your career here at the U. Around your first day of work you may expect to receive a welcome email from the Office of Human Resources with valuable information and opportunities.

New Faculty Orientation

New Faculty Orientation is hosted by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs. Each August, the two-day orientation introduces new faculty to critical information, resources, and support for their research, teaching, and outreach efforts.
