The HR team is here to help manage the transition of an employee’s departure. Whether a resignation, end of appointment, or retirement, there are considerations and decisions to be made by both the employee and supervisor.
SPH Employee Exit Checklist
This helpful resource outlines steps for both employees and supervisors to prepare for an employee’s departure from employment in SPH.
Exit Interviews
Departing staff members are contacted by an SPH HR team member to arrange for an exit interview before their last day. Faculty leaving for other employment opportunities are contacted by the Provost’s Office after their departure.
Retirement
The retirement path is different for each individual, but preparation is a necessary item for a smooth transition to retirement. Employees contemplating retirement should schedule an appointment with an Employee Benefits Counselor six to twelve months before their anticipated retirement date. Faculty considering retirement should talk with their division heads and consult with the SPH chief of staff for more information about the Phased Retirement Program.
Contact an Employee Benefits counselor at benefits@umn.edu or 612-624-UOHR.
Access to University Applications
After you retire, your access to University applications like UMN email and Google Workspace, Zoom, and Microsoft 365 will change. Learn what to expect and how to prepare on the Leaving the University self-help guide.*
*Faculty emeriti will retain access to Gmail and Google Workspace as per University policy.
SPH Faculty Emeriti
Retired faculty remain important members of the school as emeriti faculty. School leadership welcomes emeriti faculty for an annual luncheon to stay connected and up-to-date about the direction of the school. They also can continue contributing to the school as a volunteer or work up to 19.5 hours a week.
