The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) coordinates a variety of activities as part of our faculty academic development and programming. Below is a list of opportunities supported by our office. Please let us know if there is an activity or event that should be considered.
Annual New Faculty Meeting
Each spring, the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs (ADFA) hosts an annual meeting of all faculty hired in the prior calendar year. This is a listening opportunity for the ADFA, to hear about and discuss barriers experienced, what is going well, what resources are needed, what connections need to be made. The meeting also serves as a networking opportunity for the new faculty with each other.
Continuation Dossier Creation Session
The Continuation Dossier Creation working session unpacks the process of building a continuation dossier. Led by the Senior Administrator for Faculty Affairs, this one-hour interactive workshop session breaks down the steps for creating and compiling a continuation dossier. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask specific questions or concerns.
Continuation of Tenure Track Faculty Appointment Presentation
To begin the continuation of the probationary tenure track faculty appointment review process for 2024-2025 academic year, OFA hosts the annual Continuation of Tenure Track Faculty Appointment presentation to discuss:
- policy and review procedures;
- appointment year progression and extensions;
- continuation dossier creation;
- deadlines and review schedule; and
- key elements of a dossier

Meet & Greet Introductory Meeting
Meet & Greet introductory meetings with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and the Senior Administrator for Faculty Affairs are designed as an opportunity for faculty to interact with key personnel from OFA, and to introduce the support provided by the office. The meeting with the Associate Dean will focus on establishing connections at the SPH and UMN, discussing policies, faculty development, and building your mentoring team. The meeting with the Senior Administrator will focus on SPH details specific to the faculty member appointment and rank.
New employees to the school are also invited to attend SPH New Employee Orientation. Sessions are held once a month for all new faculty and staff with 50 percent or greater appointments are invited to attend a school orientation to engage with the school’s mission, understand key policies and resources, and forge connections.
Office Hours for Dossier Review
Dossiers are used to review a faculty member for promotion and/or tenure, and for continuation of the probationary tenure track. The Office of Faculty Affairs provides office hours to assist anyone with specific needs in relation to CV and dossier preparation and documentation for any upcoming Promotion and/or Tenure or Continuation cycle. Dates will be announced at the beginning of each cycle.
Workshop for Promotion and/or Tenure Candidates
Faculty candidates considering promotion or tenure are required to attend the SPH Workshop for Promotion Candidates, organized by the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs. This workshop informs candidates about the promotion procedures established by the SPH Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Policy and the UMN Board of Regents faculty tenure code. Invitations will be sent via email and added to faculty calendars. The session will be recorded and accessible upon request.
