The continuation of probationary tenure track faculty appointments is the annual review of faculty progression towards promotion and tenure.
The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) works with faculty candidates to create a dossier for review and recommendation vote, and decision by the Appointment, Promotion and Tenure (APT) Committee, School of Public Health (SPH) faculty, dean, University of Minnesota Provost and Board of Regents in accordance with the appropriate UMN and SPH policies and procedures.
Questions about the continuation review process in SPH should be directed to SPH OFA at sph-ofa@umn.edu.

Policies and Procedures
The continuation process of probationary tenure track faculty appointments is the School of Public Health’s annual review of faculty progression towards promotion and tenure. This review, and the resulting recommendations for continuation of appointment, are completed by the Division, SPH Appointment, Promotion and Tenure (APT) Committee, and SPH tenured faculty before presenting to the dean and the UMN Provost for final decision.
Continuation of the appointment requires the creation and submission of a dossier according to SPH and UMN standards and requirements. This dossier is the vehicle used to evaluate academic accomplishments for the recommendations and decision to continue the appointment.
The continuation reviews are completed in accordance with the annual appraisal processes and procedures established by the University of Minnesota and the Board of Regents faculty tenure code.
The continuation of the tenure track appointment process in the SPH is governed by:
- SPH Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Policy (7.12)
- Board of Regents Policy: Faculty Tenure (Section 7.11)
- Procedures for Reviewing Candidates for Tenure and/or Promotion: Tenure-Track and Tenured Faculty
