News media coverage is essential to ensuring that SPH work reaches the public. News and research stories improve exposure for the vital work being done here, increase knowledge about public health, and contribute relevant insights to issues of local, national, and international importance.
Submission
News, events, and research announcements can be submitted for distribution by completing the SPH Communications request form. The completed form will be automatically sent to SPH Communications, and you will receive a response from a team member within 3 business days.
Accepted topics include: research, grants, awards, accomplishments and honors, profiles, general interest stories, alumni/student updates, etc.
Format
All stories are written to reflect the school’s unique Voice & Tone, and will adhere to the SPH Writing Style Guide.
Research Stories
Research news is developed using a Research Brief format — a more effective alternative to the traditional press release.
Once we receive your request, you will have two options to create the story:
- Option 1: Researchers can draft their own research brief
- Option 2: Researchers can request SPH Communications to draft the research brief
Other Stories
Non-research stories and profiles are typically written using journalistic style format up to 750 words.
Longer feature stories are chosen based on the SPH editorial calendar. They will include a professional photo shoot and will be up to 2,000 words.
Distribution
All research news is posted on our website and shared with our school community through social media, SPH newsletters, and ASPPH’s national weekly email, Friday Letter.
SPH Communications will also work with University Public Relations to distribute it to local and national media and post it to the U-wide news page.
